How to Perform a Facial at Home

Not everyone can afford to buy a professional facial, but everyone deserves to have healthy skin. I am going to give you concise steps of how to perform your own facial at home.

Step 1: Prepare Product

- You will need a facial cleanser, an exfoliant, massage oil (I  recommend using Coconut Oil), a mask, and a moisturizer. Serums will boost your home treatment and are optional. To increase the spa like feel you can use hot towels by wetting cloths and putting them in a crock pot.
This is a great activity to do with another person, so that you both can get some pampering. It's boring doing it yourself, but of course you still can.

Step 2: Cleanse the Skin

- Your first step in the facial is to cleanse the skin. If you are performing on another person you will use warm water to wet the skin and apply cleanser to it. When you are done cleansing the skin, take off the cleanser with a warm towel.

Step 3: Exfoliate the Skin

- You will wet the skin as you did above, but this time you will apply an exfoliant. These are usually similar to cleansers but they have grit to them, similar to the consistency of sugar being scrubbed on the skin. Exfoliating the skin gets rid of dead skin cells and encourages new skin cell growth, which can help with acne, sun-damage and premature aging. After you are done maneuvering your exfoliant on the skin, take off with warm towel.

Step 4: Perform Light Facial Massage

- This step is fun if you have someone to perform on. Use massage oil or massage lotion in this step. I recommend Coconut oil because it is inexpensive and is healthy for the skin. During the massage it is great to add essential oils for healing and therapeutic purposes. I will include a link that will demonstrate a facial massage, but you really can get very creative with it and do your own thing.

Step 5: Perform Mask

- You can purchase any skin care mask based on your needs at any beauty supply store such as Sally Beauty Supply. You will apply the mask and usually leave on for 8-10 minutes. When you are done, remove mask with warm towels. Make sure all residue is gone.

Step 6: Hydrate the Skin

- Now is the time to add any serums you may have. Serums are really what increase your results, whether for evening skin tone, anti-aging or treatment for acne. You will then end with a hydrating moisturizer. After treating the skin, it is very important to restore it with moisture so that the skin doesn't become dried out.

And there you go! You now know how to perform a simple facial at home!

First Product Review

I am working on creating my own homemade skincare line with DoTerra Essential Oils. My first product I made is a type of exfoliant. I tried it for the first time today and I am actually blown away by what I created! This product feels amazing on the skin and isn't too rough at all. It gently exfoliates the skin and leaves it moisturized as well. Most exfoliants do not hydrate the skin. Coconut oil is also one of the main ingredients.Coconut oil naturally moisturizes the skin and prevents aging.  The oils I used are: Lemon oil, Lavender oil and Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca). All these oils flush the skin with powerful antioxidants. Lemon oil is a great skin brightener. It also works as an astringent and tonic. Lemon can leave with skin invigorating and refreshed. Lavender oil is very calming, which is important after cleansing the skin. Lavender works as an anti inflammatory and regenerative. Lavender can also be used to treat acne. Tea Tree oil is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-infectious. It also works as an anti-inflammatory and  tissue regenerative. Using an exfoliant helps the skin to produce new skin cells, getting rid of uneven skin tone and helping to combat premature aging. I am very excited about my first product and the benefits it provides. If you have any questions please feel free to post them in the comment section below.
